What does HANSANOVA mean?
- It is the spirit of the Northern European merchant guild "Hanza" that existed in the Middle Ages, which awakened music merchants from the only city in Lithuania that belonged to this network - Kaunas.
How are HANSANOVA members related to each other?.
The founders of the band, Giedrius and Indrė, are husband and wife. A few years after the band was formed, Giedrius' father Rimantas joined them, and their daughter Saulė has been playing with them since the age of six. This forms the core of the Balčiūnas family.
What does HANSANOVA play?
- Our repertoire consists of magical songs from past centuries. These are Celtic, Germanic and old European melodies interwoven with Lithuanian folk elements, pirate riddles, and classic sea work songs from the Middle Ages. Often, when creating our arrangements for well-known medieval, renaissance and folk melodies, we balance between acoustic folk rock thunder, troubadour lyric and polka rhythm pulsation. In Lithuanian, English and German, we sing about friendship, chivalrous love, tavern fun.

Where can you hear HANSANOVA?
– We have been performing throughout the Baltic region for 14 years, at various festivals and events. We are invited to Kaunas Hansa, Jotva Gate Festivals, Trakai History Museum, medieval festivals in the old towns of Riga, Tallinn, Pärnu, international cat shows LGAC. We film various television shows, etc. We also organize author concerts in music clubs and are invited to play at private performances.
What is special about HANSANOVA?
– Each of our performances is accompanied by a festive mood, because we are a costume group. We constantly invest in exclusive stage costumes, footwear, jewelry, and paraphernalia. We dress in the stylized style of Renaissance musicians. Our instruments are carefully selected, authentic and unique in both their sound and appearance. These are the ancestors of modern guitars; lute, bouzouki, lazdakanklės, lauda. Our percussion instruments are handmade, made of extremely high-quality wood and genuine leather.
